Four years have gone by since the shop was opened. My maxim has always been that “Quality first, profit later” and “Do as you would be done by”. Facing the opposition of the ever-rising inflation and competition from large chain stores (especially the adversity experienced by small business) I feel like the main character in a Chinese fable Yue Kong* (愚公移山) – attempting the impossible.

Looking back, there has been gladness as well as disappointment. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not let down by the investment loss (after all, it is just right that small business cannot  earn a living easily in a place like Hong Kong) . Instead it is that the majority of consumers are still blindly trusting advertisements and cheap products with gorgeous packaging. Few would take a step back and consider the reason behind the low price and the attractive look of the things they buy, be it the exploitation of the environment, the local producers or their own health.

Of course there have been moments of joy when I have been acquainted with my customers who were still strangers on the street 4 years ago. I am so blessed to have the support from many regulars and friends. What is even better is witnessing them growing healthier with the help of our products. This alone is an invaluable gain and has been my motive of striving to keep the shop running among all hardship.
